The challenge with returning to a conference city, such as Brighton, is both living up to the previous example and dealing with any adverse memories. We are fortunate to have help in this regard from Jon Allan at the Hilton Metropole, managing the Gala Dinner, who remembers the last time Soroptimists were there - he tells a wonderful story of the cutlery that they needed to borrow and the days it took to lay up the tables! He also remembers the problems of getting everyone into the banqueting suite.
So for the Gala Dinner this time, we have changed the conference schedule to complete the Change of Insignia during the business day at the Dome, and extended the time for arrival at the evening venue with a drinks reception before the Dinner. The Hilton Metropole hotel will open the reception from 6:30pm, moving us through to our tables from 7:00pm with dinner served at 8:00pm. As we move into the banqueting suite there will be music from “In the Pink Big Band”, a musical group led by Soroptimist Debbie Rogers along with unusual and original diversions in between! We have negotiated a very favourable deal on the wine available for purchase with the meal and whilst we can’t have a dance floor in the room, there’s no reason why we can’t have wriggling in the aisles!
